Speaking Up for Our Students: How to support our students in advocating for themselves in the college admission process

Audience:  Everyone

Presenters:

  • Stacey Cunitz, The Crefeld School
  • Alicia Oglesby, Lower Mooreland School District

Stacey has been the Director of College Counseling at The Crefeld School since 2005 and founded Blue Moon Educational Consulting in 2017. In 2021, Stacey was elected by PACAC’s membership to serve in a three-year presidential cycle beginning in 2021 as President-Elect. Previously, Stacey served as PACAC’s Chair of the Admissions Practices Committee from 2017 to 2020 which is charged with educating colleges, counselors, and students regarding the nature of ethical standards embraced by NACAC and PACAC.

Alicia was born and raised in Philadelphia. After graduating from Central High School (258), she made her way to Howard University in Washington, D.C. She majored in Psychology and earned her bachelor's degree before attending graduate school at Chestnut Hill College, where she earned her master's degree in Counseling Psychology. Alicia has spent the past 15 years as a counselor, originally working with teenagers for the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Study and Treatment of Anxiety and most recently working with college-bound students at Bishop McNamara High School, outside of Washington, D.C.

Description: In the last few years, it seems like students need our advocacy more and more. As admission practices start to push the boundaries of best practice, we know that those students who are typically found at the margins – Students of Color, LGBTQ students, First Gen, Low Income – are disproportionately impacted and likely lack the resources to advocate for themselves. In this workshop, we will discuss both the "Why" and the "How to" -- come ready to learn and to share!

After the session, you will:

  • Receive a Certificate of Completion and online application form to submit for ACT 48 credit through PACAC. (Note: you must be registered and logged in to the LIVE Online Workshop individually for the entire time to qualify for the certificate.)

Cost:  FREE for PACAC Members. Non-Members: $10
