ALP Webinar 1
Topic: What is Advocacy?
Speaker:
Sean Robins is a policy leader and education advocate focused on removing barriers and expanding opportunity for students and their families. His work centers on examining systems, strengthening policy, and shaping programs that make education more accessible, equitable, and effective.
Sean serves as the Director of Advocacy at the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), where he leads efforts to advance federal and state policies that support college access, affordability, and student success. His career began in education as an instructor teaching adult-based education programs, then shifted to supporting students as they transitioned between college and careers. He later moved into policy roles that span the full education continuum, driving reforms that improve outcomes from early learning through postsecondary education.
Before joining NACAC, Sean worked at the Association of Community College Trustees, where he convened community college leaders, guided institutions pursuing federal and state funding, led a national pilot to strengthen skills-based hiring, and created a new model to connect Head Start programs with community colleges. He also serves as Executive Director of Young Education Professionals (YEP) National, building networks and professional development pathways for early- and mid-career educators and advocates.
A first-generation college graduate, Sean’s personal journey anchors his commitment to ensuring that all students — regardless of background — have access to high-quality education, mentorship, and pathways that support their goals. He holds a Master of Education in Education Policy and Leadership from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Furman University.
