ELP Webinar 1
Topic: Is Your Office Following the Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission?
Description: Although we act with the best of intentions, our actions and policies may not always adhere to NACAC’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission (GEPCA), often without us even realizing it. Sometimes, we encounter ethically dubious situations but aren’t sure how to address them. In this session, which has been previously presented at the 2025 PACAC and NACAC conferences, we will lay the foundation for utilizing the GEPCA to evaluate your and your institution’s practices and policies by walking you through real examples of ethical practice audits and sharing strategies to gain organizational buy-in for institutional changes when necessary.
Speakers: Sara Cohen (she/her) is an associate dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania, where she oversees strategy and implementation of recruitment and outreach efforts. In this role, she also evaluates applications from domestic and international territories, serves as a committee chair, and manages a team of staff members. Sara is currently amidst her 9th admission cycle at Penn, and she has held prior admissions roles at Amherst College and Middlebury College. She holds a bachelors degree from Middlebury College and a Masters degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Education. She currently serves on NACAC’s Admissions Practices Committee and is a past participant in the College Board’s Enrollment Leadership Academy.
Chris LaTempa (he/him) began his current role at Moorestown Friends School in July 2023 following 8 years as the Associate Director of College Counseling at Malvern Preparatory School. Prior to Malvern, he served as a college counselor at Salesianum School in Wilmington, DE and as a Senior Assistant Director of Admission at Lafayette College. In addition to his counseling roles, Chris has designed and taught courses on public speaking and social entrepreneurship and coached baseball and softball at Malvern, Salesianum, and Lafayette. He is an adjunct faculty member of Villanova University’s College Counseling Certificate Program, through which he teaches the Counseling College-Bound Athletes and Hyper-selective Admission & Special Program courses. Additionally, he serves as PACAC's Admission Practices Committee Chair, co-leader of NACAC’s Prospective Student-Athlete Advocacy Special Interest Group (SIG), and as a member of Lafayette College's Northeast Alumni Advisory Council. Chris is a PACAC Summer Institute faculty alum and a former member of PACAC's Conference Planning Committee, Government Relations Committee, and Secondary School Counselors Committee, which he chaired from 2015-2019. He holds an undergraduate degree in American Studies with a social justice concentration from Lafayette College and a master's degree in Independent School Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania
