Take ActionLooking for a quick, easy way to advocate for your students? You’ve come to the right place! Check back in periodically for new actions. Contact your representatives to support continued funding for the Pennsylvania College Advising Corps (PCAC). Funding for the Pennsylvania College Advising Corps (PCAC), a vital program that places recent college graduates at rural high schools in PA as college advisers, continues to be threatened. Interim Program Director, Anabel Menifee, writes: "This is a significant challenge, as it means the nearly 12,000 we serve across Pennsylvania, many in rural or underserved areas, may no longer benefit from the dedicated guidance and support our advisers provide. We know that school districts are already navigating complex situations, and the absence of our advisers would add further responsibilities to counselors who are often already stretched thin, particularly with the vital mental health and academic support they offer students. If you've collaborated with our advisors, believe in our mission, or simply want to help students access higher education, we would be incredibly grateful for your support." Find your federal representatives and your state representatives and encourage them to support the continued funding for PCAC. Support international education and exchange programs. [3/26/2025] Recent actions at the Department of State and Department of Education have caused funding and staffing disruptions for key international education programs, such as Fulbright, Gillman, EducationUSA, and more. Join NAFSA (Association of International Educators) in telling Congress to continue funding these crucial international programs. Tell Congress: Do Not Abandon our National Commitment to Education. [2/21/2025] Reach out to your legislators and tell them not to dismantle or eliminate the Department of Education with NACAC’s advocacy action template.
NACAC has distributed the above letter, which details the association's vision of strengthening postsecondary access, to the new presidential administration and members of Congress. Promote the priorities outlined in the letter and supported by NACAC and affiliates by sending the letter to your representatives. Help Students Finish College by Addressing Food Insecurity [12/19/2024] With over four million college students facing food insecurity, students' academic performance is hindered as current laws make it extremely difficult for them to access SNAP benefits. Contact your members of Congress today to urge them to support legislative changes to address this issue.
Encourage members of Congress to fund education and oppose the drastic cuts to education funding proposed in the Fiscal Year 2025 House of Representatives' appropriations bill. Urge Congress to improve student visa processing delays and high denial rate in Global South. [11/26/2024] International students from the Global South experience longer delays in scheduling their visa interview appointments and higher denial rates than their counterparts across the world. Send a pre-written (or your own!) letter to your representatives in support of improving these conditions for Pennsylvania’s international students. The past year has seen numerous challenges with the rollout of the 2024-25 FAFSA. As the school year begins, financial aid offices will need to redirect staff to the reporting deadline for Gainful Employment and Financial Value Transparency instead of working directly with students on their financial aid disbursement. Join PASFAA in asking that the Department of Education postpone the GE/FVT reporting requirement until July 1, 2025.
